Aliens might exist, but there are three compelling reasons why they probably aren't visiting us. Firstly, space is vast and our current technology is nowhere near fast enough to travel across it within human lifespans. Even at the speed of our fastest spacecraft, the Parker Solar Probe, it would take about 6,650 years to reach Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to our Sun. This is due to the phenomenon of time dilation, where time moves more slowly for objects in motion, and the immense energy requirements for interstellar travel. At the speed of light, a spaceship would become infinitely massive, requiring an infinite amount of energy, which is clearly impossible. Additionally, the vacuum of space, while not completely empty, contains enough particles to cause fatal radiation for passengers and instruments, or destroy the spacecraft. Secondly, our unique biosphere, co-evolved with life on Earth, presents a challenge for potential alien visitors. Oxygen, essential for life on Earth, could be highly corrosive for aliens, and reports of visiting aliens do not include descriptions of spacesuits. Lastly, the vast number of stars and planets in the universe, combined with the lack of evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence, suggests that the odds of finding intelligent life elsewhere are slim. While scientists are working on the question, the search for alien life has so far yielded no results, and the challenge of estimating the chance of success is immense. Despite the possibility of alien existence, the current evidence suggests that they are not visiting us, and the reasons for this are both scientific and philosophical.
